Karoline Heintz was found dead inside the back hatch of her Jeep Cherokee after her boyfriend Royce Mosher stabbed her to death near the California Borough Library.

Karoline Heintz was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend, Royce Mosher, who told his mother that a "demon takeover" instructed him to harm her.
Heintz, an incoming freshman on Pennsylvania Western University’s women’s soccer team, was found dead inside the back hatch of her Jeep Cherokee at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, August 20, near the university campus in California.
Trooper Rocco Gagliardi discussed the conversation between Karoline Heintz and Royce Mosher before the alleged stabbing.
"They’re a younger couple talking about how relationships can continue maybe in a college setting. Somewhere that conversation probably goes a little bit south," Trooper Rocco Gagliardi told WTAE-TV.
According to him, Heintz had met up with her boyfriend, Mosher, after attending a family gathering earlier that evening.
The pair went to Mosher’s father’s home in North Strabane Township before continuing their conversation inside Heintz’s vehicle.
Karoline Heintz Was Allegedly Stabbed in Her Car
Royce Mosher and his mother, Rachel Mosher, allegedly attempted to clean evidence following Karoline Heintz’s death.
Soon, things reportedly took a violent turn after Mosher went inside the house.
"Towards the end of that conversation between boyfriend and girlfriend, he goes inside and grabs a large knife from the kitchen," Gagliardi said.
Mosher allegedly returned to the vehicle and told Heintz he had something for her before stabbing her in the chest. She fell from the vehicle during the alleged attack.
Investigators said Mosher then placed Heintz in the back of her Jeep and drove to his mother’s home in Beallsville, Pennsylvania.
"They tried to clean clothes, tried to clean the car up, tried to get rid of any blood stains possible and then proceeded to take that vehicle with the mother tailing all the way down to California Borough," the police officer said.

Police Found Karoline Heintz After Her Family Requested Wellness Check
Karoline Heintz’s family contacted authorities after she failed to return to her dorm room as expected.
Heintz’s family became concerned after she failed to return to her dorm room as expected and contacted authorities for a wellness check.
Her location was eventually traced to an area outside the California Borough Library. Officers arrived and discovered her body inside the Jeep, which police described as abandoned and blood-stained.
Mosher and her mother were arrested Thursday morning, August 20, as investigators continued working to determine what led to the alleged killing.
Authorities did not disclose a motive or confirm whether Mosher’s mental health history played a role in this.
Royce Mosher Faced Multiple Charges
Royce Mosher was charged with criminal homicide and other offenses before he was led from a Pennsylvania police station in handcuffs.
Mosher was charged with criminal homicide, two counts of tampering with evidence, two counts of abuse of a corpse, and obstruction.
He was later seen being led from a police station on the evening of August 20. He remained stone-faced while handcuffed and wearing a white prison jumpsuit.
Gagliardi spoke about the impact of Heintz’s death.
"It is more of an unfortunate event, 18-year-old girl, young soccer star ready to explore life, ready to start college, now can no longer get to do that," Gagliardi said.
