Today's Sheinelle Jones Relates to Nicole Kidman's 'Unknown' Future After Actress Spoke Out About Keith Urban Split: 'I Feel Like I’m Not Alone'

Today show anchor Sheinelle Jones related to Nicole Kidman while reflecting on the ways in which her life has not turned out how she expected it to.

Jones opened up about the dreams of grandeur she had before her husband Uche Ojeh's 2025 death on the August 17 episode of TODAY With Jenna and Sheinelle.

Kidman, similarly, reflected on losing her partner to a divorce that shocked even her in a recent British Vogue cover story.

"I didn't expect this," the actress said of her recent divorce from longtime partner Keith Urban. "I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now."

While speaking about Kidman's interview, Jones praised the Oscar-winner for leading by example and being "very honest" about the expectations she had for life.

"I can relate to that," the host said of Kidman's assessment that she has no idea what is coming next, but just keeps rolling with the punches.

"I think it's interesting that we think about how our lives are going to go and you can't," her co-host, Jenna Bush Hager, agreed. "God has a say on that."

Jones admitted that even as a little girl, she had a concrete set of plans for her future.

She was going to become a news anchor, get married and have three kids. And while she did accomplish each of those things, none of it turned out the way she expected.

"I always felt like, just be a good girl, do the right things, be nice to people, and it will all work out," she reflected. "And all of a sudden I'm 48, and I did all of the 'right things' and I'm a good girl, and I went to church."

"And you know what?" she added. "It didn't exactly turn out how I thought it would."

Her husband was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2023. He left behind Jones and their three children: Kayin, Clara and Uche Jr.

Kidman echoed similar sentiments while promoting her new film, Practical Magic 2.

"You make all these plans, and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like, and then it’s...not," she explained. "You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now...Strange."

The anchor explained that the 59-year-old's candid admissions permitted her to breathe a sigh of relief.

"It can be scary, and then you get an article like this where there's someone else who's maybe a decade in front of me speaking her truth, and she says, 'Listen, now I'm not sure where life is going,'" Jones elaborated.

Knowing that even the stars experience such uncertainty reminded Jones that she is "not alone."

"It may be a different circumstance, but I think when we're honest about what we're going through, I think it helps," Jones expressed, to Bush Hager's resounding agreement.
