ENTERTAINMENTDonald Trump Falsely Claims Wife Melania's Documentary Was the 'No. 1 Movie of the Year'

'I think it’s the No. 1 movie of the year,' Donald Trump claimed of Melania's self-titled documentary.

President Donald Trump’s claim that the Melania documentary was the "No. 1 movie of the year" appears to be inaccurate, as the film did not come close to topping the year’s box office charts.
Speaking to supporters in Las Vegas, Trump praised his wife, Melania Trump, as a "big movie star" and boasted that her self-titled documentary, Melania: Twenty Days to History, was the year’s top movie.
After discussing communism, urban decay and his wife’s reaction to some of his political rhetoric, the president returned to praising Melania, saying, “The cities stink, they smell, the sidewalks [are] loaded was horrible stuff. I don’t want to use the term because my wife … she hates it when I use the term. She doesn’t love it. She hates it when I imitate… no men in women’s sports. She hates it when I do the weight lifter. She said, ‘It’s not presidential.’ I said, ‘Well, it may not be presidential, but I won the election in a landslide,’ so I don’t know. Well, she’s very elegant. You know, Melania says hello to everybody. By the way, she’s very, very elegant; she did a movie, I think it’s the No. 1 movie of the year. She’s very elegant.”

Donald Trump's wife Melania's documentary did not top the charts as he suggested.
The actual theatrical data, however, paints a completely different financial picture.
Amazon MGM Studios poured roughly $75 million into the project ($40 million to secure the rights and $35 million for marketing).
The film generated only $16.6 million worldwide during its theatrical run, leaving it deep in the red.
Trump's claim stems from a selective interpretation of its opening week, in which it debuted at $7.2 million. While this did mark the highest opening weekend for a documentary in over a decade, it was nowhere near the top of the general box office charts.

Opening weekend of 'Melania' was, in fact, successful for a documentary but still underperformed on overall movie charts.
After transitioning to Amazon Prime, the film placed seventh in its debut streaming week with 230 million minutes viewed, vastly trailing mainstream hits like Zootopia 2, which drew 1.7 billion minutes.
Backlash, negative reviews and internal production disputes plagued the film's release.
In an unusual move that showed clear internal friction, approximately two-thirds of the film's crew members requested that their names be completely removed from the final credits.

The documentary was directed by controversial director Brett Ratner, marking his return to film after facing accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct from multiple women in 2017.
Industry critics overwhelmingly panned the movie, resulting in a dismal 11 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Media critics and late-night hosts heavily scrutinized Amazon's $75 million investment, characterizing the expensive, loss-making project as a strategic political effort to curry favor with the Trump administration.
Amazon Prime Video is officially releasing a sequel docuseries to the documentary in the fall of 2026. Despite the original film suffering massive box-office losses and poor critic reviews, Amazon is moving forward with the project as part of its initial $40 million multi-part acquisition agreement.
Marc Beckman Confirms Follow-Up Melania Trump Docuseries

Melania’s senior advisor and producer, Marc Beckman confirmed a follow-up docuseries in a recent interview.
The follow-up series was officially confirmed by Melania’s senior advisor and producer, Marc Beckman, during an interview on Real America's Voice.
Unlike the single-volume film, the sequel will be released as a multi-part documentary series streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
The new docuseries will pick up right at the beginning of Donald Trump’s second term.
Beckman noted that the upcoming docuseries was "shot entirely different" and is intended to be a "completely different look at her world" compared to the Ratner-directed box-office flop.
