Who Has Perez Hilton Feuded With Over the Years? Britney Spears, Khloé Kardashian and More

Perez Hilton has "tons of regrets" about the harsh way he wrote about celebrities in the past.

The celebrity columnist launched PerezHilton.com in 2004, and the site earned the moniker "Hollywood's Most Hated Website" for its scathing coverage of Hollywood stars, musicians and public figures. Although the site went on to become "one of the leading go-to sites for celebrity news, garnering over 300 million hits a month," Hilton has since expressed deep shame and regret over the way he treated celebrities during the height of online gossip culture.

"I don't want to name specific people or instances because I don't want to open wounds for those people. Where I am today is wiser, but I would rather be less wise and not have hurt certain people," he explained to Washington Square News, New York University's independent student newspaper, in 2014.

Over the years, Hilton's blistering coverage sparked several high-profile clashes with celebrities. Here's a look back at some of his biggest feuds.

Hilton's feud with Azealia Banks started in 2013 when the columnist sided with Angel Haze during the rappers' public dispute.

"@PerezHilton lol what a messy f----- you are," she blasted Hilton, who is an openly g--.

The "212" rapper defended her use of the slur, arguing she did not intend it as a reference to g-- men.

"A f----- is any male who acts like a female. There's a BIG difference. As a bisexual person I knew what I meant when I used that word … When I said acts like a female I should've said acts like a c---," she wrote.

LGBTQ+ advocacy group GLAAD criticized Banks' explanation, and the rapper later apologized to those who were offended.

Hilton's largely one-sided conflict with Britney Spears stemmed from his harsh coverage of her highly publicized struggles in the late 2000s. He repeatedly branded her an "unfit mother" following her infamous umbrella attack in 2007.

His jabs drew even more backlash after Heath Ledger died in January 2008, when Hilton began selling T-shirts emblazoned with the message, "Why Couldn't It Be Britney?"

Years later, Hilton voiced deep remorse over his ruthless treatment of Spears.

"I know that I did not express myself as well as I could have," he said in a 2021 interview with Sky News. "I didn't lead with empathy and compassion, which thankfully it seems like most people now are understanding the severity of Britney's situation. But I absolutely apologize and carry deep shame and regret."

At the 2009 Miss USA pageant, Hilton, who was serving as a judge, asked contestant Carrie Prejean for her views on legalizing g-- marriage.

"I think it's great Americans are able to choose one or the other," she answered. "We live in a land that you can choose same-s-- marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what in my country, in my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody there, but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be, between a man and a woman."

Hilton later criticized Prejean's response in a video blog, calling it the "worst answer in pageant history" and referring to her as a "dumb b----." He later apologized for the insult and offered to meet the beauty queen over coffee to talk things through.

Demi Lovato also landed on Hilton's feud list after defending Lindsay Lohan against speculative stories about the Mean Girls star's substance use.

"Hey, how about you just leave her alone? Instead of kicking someone while they're down?" Lovato asked, prompting Hilton to fire back, "The media (me) is not harming Lindsay. She is doing that to herself. She needs to take accountability."

The Camp Rock alum then pointed to the human cost of celebrity gossip, writing, "The media (not just you) don't realize when you need to stop. This isn't a headline for your readers. This is someone's life."

The pair's public spat resumed in 2016 when Hilton liked tweets referencing Lovato's criticism of Mariah Carey. Irritated, Lovato sent him a private message on Twitter, now X, telling him to stay out of the dispute. Hilton responded by posting screenshots of the DMs and accusing Lovato of being "petty."

Their bad blood resurfaced again in 2018 after Hilton attended Lovato's Tell Me You Love Me show at the MGM Grand Arena.

"I am a Demi Lovato fan. She wasn't bad. She was better than before," he said afterward. "I have nothing bad to say."

In response, the Sonny with a Chance star told her fans she performed "Sorry Not Sorry" in front of someone she called "one of the notorious bullies."

"And btw – he's remaining nameless because he doesn't deserve the relevance that he doesn't have anymore," she added in another post without naming Hilton.

Hilton assumed the remarks were aimed at him and accused Lovato of hypocrisy, arguing that an anti-bullying advocate was behaving like a bully herself.

He took particular issue with Lovato calling him irrelevant and publicly celebrating what she had done, saying that although she may have intended to hurt him, "it made [him] feel great." Hilton then shifted the criticism toward Lovato personally, bringing up her career, mental health, substance abuse and eating-related struggles.

"She's not Taylor Swift, she's not Selena Gomez and it must not be easy for her," Hilton added.

In 2009, Demi Moore called out Hilton for posting a link to photos of her then-15-year-old daughter, Tallulah Willis, on his website.

"Clearly Perez Hilton isn't taking violating child p---------- laws very seriously. He might not but there are alot of people who do!" she tweeted. "Let me ask all of you, what is it called when someone is telling people to look and focus on a child's 'b---- and a--' while providing photos? This is not a game. Children should not be exploited. They must be protected."

Hilton fired back, claiming Moore's criticism had only drawn "more attention" to her daughter's behavior and what he described as Moore's "lack" of parenting skills.

"I would not let my 15-year-old daughter dress like that under any context," he wrote, before calling Moore "delusional and slightly senile."

Hilton also suggested the dispute had taken a legal turn, adding, "Make sure to read the letter my lawyer sent your attorney... We need a response!"

Following Jennifer Aniston's split from Brad Pitt, Hilton repeatedly mocked the Friends star and gave her the derogatory nickname "Maniston." Their tensions also spilled into a legal dispute in 2007 after Hilton posted a topless photo of Aniston taken during production of her 2006 film The Break-Up.

Years later, Aniston revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she unexpectedly ran into Hilton in a parking garage and confronted him.

"It was one of those great moments," she recalled. "It was a lovely meeting and I was just like, 'Why are you so mean?'"

Hilton later shared his own account of the encounter, saying Aniston specifically asked why he called her "Maniston."

"She said that it hurt her and that it was mean," he shared. "I told her all the excuses that I kept telling myself. I would make myself feel better by saying things like what I told her, 'You're just a character, it's just entertainment, don't take it so seriously.'"

Jennifer Lawrence called out Hilton after his eponymous blog published her nude photos during the 2014 celebrity photo hack. Although he later took down the snaps, The Hunger Games actress rejected his apology and explanation.

"[Perez] took it down because people got p-----, and that's the only reason why," she told Vanity Fair. "And then I had to watch his apology. And what he basically said was, 'I just didn't think about it'. 'I just didn't think about it' is not an excuse. That is the exact issue itself."

Hilton's feud with Khloé Kardashian came to a head in 2010 after he asked the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum to participate in an "It Gets Better" anti-bullying video.

Kardashian agreed despite her hesitation, then candidly addressed her own experience with Hilton.

"Perez Hilton asked me himself to do this video, and he's doing such an amazing thing by getting all these celebs to speak up to people—but for me, he's been my personal bully," she said, noting that his website had repeatedly called her "fugly" and "t----."

In a July 14 podcast interview with Sean Hannity, Hilton revealed he reached out to Kardashian and other celebrities to apologize.

"Well, according to the intermediary that relayed what I wrote to her … I reached out to Khloé Kardashian, and she responded back. She was very kind. Some people don't respond back, and that's fine," he said of The Kardashians star.

Hilton and Lady Gaga went from close friends to bitter enemies after their relationship unraveled in the early 2010s.

The "Bad Romance" songstress accused her ex-friend of stalking, a claim he strongly denied.

"I'm a critic, not a stalker," said Hilton.

He continued, "Any allegation that I am stalking her is utterly false, defamatory and now appear to be putting me in danger. I will continue to be a critic — in a way that is not mean or involves name-calling, and I will continue to have an opinion and talk about music and songs, like GaGa's 'Applause.' As the suggestion that I pose a danger to GaGa is preposterous, if fans want to send a message of support to her, they should buy her music."

Speaking to Howard Stern, Gaga said their falling-out began during an interview in which Hilton asked what she described as "really terrible questions."

"He was being very negative about 'Born This Way,' and we had had a lot to drink," she said. "He was supposed to be my friend and I felt betrayed, so I started crying. And then my friend had to come in and pull the camera out, they wouldn't turn the cameras off."

Although Hilton apologized, Gaga said it did little to repair the damage as it "felt like it was like, 'But I'm Perez Hilton so I'm allowed to treat you this way.'"

"I looked at him and said, 'Just because you are who you are, does not mean that our friendship doesn't mean anything when the cameras turn on. So, now I see who you really are.' And I was done after that," she explained.

In 2008, Hilton raised eyebrows after branding Lily Allen "washed up" in a piece on his website, prompting the singer-songwriter to argue it was "not fair" to label her that way.

Their feud continued in the years that followed. At one point, Hilton published a post titled "Lily Allen + Motherhood = Disaster," and it drew a furious response from Allen.

"What an evil b------. I hate this man. Someone better watch themselves. And yes, that is a threat," Allen responded.

Hilton's feud with will.i.am and Fergie intensified in 2009 after his website's years of negative coverage of the Black Eyed Peas.

During rehearsals for the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Fergie reportedly confronted Hilton over his criticism of her and the musical group. Later that night, Hilton and will.i.am got into a heated argument, during which the blogger used an anti-g-- slur.

Hilton later alleged in a vlog that Polo Molina, the primary long-time manager of the Black Eyed Peas, punched him several times. He subsequently sued Molina for medical expenses and damages related to physical and emotional distress.
