Year In Review: The 19 Biggest Teen Mom Scandals of 2014

We’ve already discussed the year in Teen Mom babies, books, and business ventures in our story about the Biggest Teen Mom Headlines of 2014, but these photos tell a slightly different tale of the scandals that surrounded the cast throughout the year. From behavior on-screen that caused Twitter backlash to questionable things that happened in real life, here’s a look back at 2014’s most shocking Teen Mom moments.

It all started in January when Catelynn Lowell decided to take her and Tyler Baltierra’s pro-life stance to social media. This anti-abortion photo she shared on Instagram caused quite a stir amongst her pro-choice followers. But hey, people—freedom of speech applies on Instagram, too!

In February, it was the car accident heard around the (Teen Mom) world when we found out that Adam Lind escaped from his car just after it crashed and just before it caught on fire and burned to ashes. Luckily Adam’s doing okay, but let’s just say that this accident didn’t exactly help his custody case with Chelsea Houska…

Also in February, Kailyn Lowry came under fire for posting a series of photos on instagram of herself breastfeeding Lincoln, who at the time was still a newborn. When Twitter commenters called the act “classless,” Kailyn fought back in the best way possible. “Do you cover YOUR face while you’re eating though,” she said. But a little dismay didn’t stop her—Kail posted tons more pics like this throughout the rest of the year!

In April, backlash hit Catelynn and Tyler again when they announced that they were trying to get pregnant. Not everyone was happy considering the couple isn’t married and since they placed their first child for adoption, but as we later found out, not even a few haters would keep them from their dreams of having a family! Catelynn officially announced her pregnancy in August and Baby Girl Baltierra is due next month.

In June, Jenelle Evans became single yet again when her divorce from Courtland Rogers finally became official. The divorce went through literally weeks before she gave birth to Kaiser, her son with Nathan Griffith, but if it hadn’t, Courtland could’ve potentially had rights to the baby! Talk about a scandal…

Also in June, reports were swirling that Maci Bookout was in trouble with the IRS and owed them about $78,000 for not paying taxes from 2011. Maci never confronted the rumors herself, so we’re still waiting for the full story on this one.

And leave it to Farrah Abraham to stir up some controversy with her co-stars. Before Catelynn and Tyler even announced their pregnancy officially, Farrah took it upon herself to call them out for making “poor choices” for having another baby out of wedlock. Cate and Ty retaliated by making fun of Farrah’s poor choices, aka her porno and line of sex toys. Ha! The co-stars eventually made up during the Couples Therapy reunion show.

After an episode of Teen Mom 2 aired over the summer in which Leah Calvert overdosed on anti-anxiety pills, everyone went crazy on her and accused her of being a drug addict. Hardly! However, despite that happening only one time (as far as we know), this scene did come back to haunt Leah later when it came to Corey Simms fighting for full custody of their twins…

Another TM2 episode that really got people talking aired in August and led to people accusing Jenelle of animal abuse. She was in charge of caring for her and Nathan’s dogs while he spent a few days in jail, and she was eight months pregnant, so we can’t blame her for getting overly frustrated! And as if fan negativity wasn’t enough, PETA even wrote Jenelle a letter afterwards about the mistreatment of animals. Awkward.

And because people always need to find someone to pick on, Kailyn was accused of being racist after the season finale of Teen Mom 2 aired in which she didn’t approve of the way her ex, Jo Rivera, cut Isaac’s hair. “Little white boys don’t get their hair cut like that. He’s half white,” she texted Jo on the show. Good thing Kail had her hubby Javi to come to her defense!

In October, Farrah made some questionable decisions when she wore a sexy Elsa costume for Halloween. But that’s not the bad part—she wore the Frozen get-up to promote her line of sex toys! Just no.

And speaking of sex, of course the biggest TM scandal of the year (and possibly ever!) was the Leah/Jeremy cheating scandal. Since Jeremy’s first tweets revealing that she cheated, there’s been tons more developments in this saga, from Robbie Kidd admitting they hooked up to Jeremy sexting another woman. Leah claims their marriage is okay now, though we’re not entirely convinced. Here’s to finding out the real story in 2015!

And since it’s not a year in Teen Mom without some baby mama drama, word broke in October that Adam Lind (reportedly) got another girl pregnant! Adam also had his fair share of non-paternity related scandals this year, from going to jail on domestic abuse charges to dating (and eventually breaking up with) a girl with a criminal record. Oh, Adam. When will you ever learn?

Elsewhere, it was reported that same month that Gary Shirley got his girlfriend, Kristina, pregnant! Gary’s only vaguely tweeted about the bun in the oven so nothing is confirmed, though we’re certain that the offiical baby announcement will coincide with the premiere of the new season of Teen Mom. Genius marketing, people. Genius.

Meanwhile, Amber Portwood‘s moved on with her own life and found love again this year. The identity of her mystery guy—with whom Amber got matching tattoos!—was just recently revealed (coincidentally just around the time of her dad’s death) and turns out Matthew Maier is almost twenty years older than Amber and reportedly has a criminal record. Moving right along...

We'll also never forget that day in November when Leah tweeted that she would not be returning to Teen Mom 2 for its rumored sixth season. It was a major scandal because people assumed that this meant that Leah quit because she and Jeremy were going through a divorce! However, soon after that, various sources said that Leah changed her mind and will in fact be back on the show. Close one.

And let’s not forget that like Adam, Ryan Edwards got into a bad car crash himself. He was okay and only suffered minor injuries after the December crash (which he reportedly caused), but it sure was scary.

And Kailyn and Javi ended the year on a low note when they got kicked out of an Eagles game. Why, you ask? Someone on line with them reportedly told Kailyn to “go have another baby,” so, naturally, Kail and Javi defended themselves and then got escorted out. So unfair!

And because the messy custody battle and her divorce rumors weren’t enough to deal with this year, Leah had to face one final crazy report just before Christmas when rumors surfaced that she stole money from her daughter Ali’s trust fund. Leah quickly denied the rumors via Twitter, thankfully. Let’s hope people cut this girl a break for a while. It’s the holidays, people! Leave poor Leah alone!
