Some of the breakups we saw coming — Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson — while others took us completely by surprise — Christina and Ant Anstead. Either way, we cried with our besties over the loss of our favorite celeb pairs.
OK! takes a look at celeb couples who called it quits this year.
Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich
Lovato and Ehrich began dating in March and quickly got engaged just months later in July. The couple suddenly called it quits on their engagement in September.
Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse
The 'Riverdale' costars called it quits in May, eight months after rekindling their romance. Throughout quarantine, the duo were living in separate spaces, with Sprouse quarantining with costar KJ Apa.
Cardi B and Offset
After almost three years of marriage, Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset. The duo share daughter Kulture, 2. The on-again off-again couple were recently spotted attending a crowded and maskless party in December, speculating that the couple might just make it work in the new year.
Christina and Ant Anstead
The 'Christina on the Coast' star shockingly announced on September 18 that she and her husband were splitting up after two years of marriage. “Ant and I have made the difficult decision to separate,” the TV renovator wrote on her Instagram.
Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler
After the couple spent three weeks in the Bahamas amid the pandemic in March, Cavallari filed for divorce from Cutler after seven years of marriage. The pair share three children together: Camden, Jaxon and Saylor. The 'Very Cavallari' star has recently been linked to comedian Jeff Dye.
Sofia Richie and Scott Disick
The pair had broken up in May after nearly three years together. Their split came right after Disick’s brief stint in rehab. The 'Flip It Like Disick' star has recently been linked to Amelia Hamlin, while maintaining a somewhat questionable romantic relationship with his ex, Kourtney Kardashian.
Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich
Hough and Laich announced they were ending their marriage in May. The couple had tied the knot nearly three years prior. The news came after the 'DWTS' alum began quarantining separately from the former hockey player in April.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock
Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband Blackstock in June. The pair had been married for nearly seven years. They share two children together: River Rose and Remington Alexander. The former flames divorce has turned messy as of late, with the 'American Idol' alum accusing Blackstock of fraud.
Ryan Seacrest and Shayna Taylor
The 'American Idol' host and model split — for the third time — in June. The couple had dated on-and-off for eight years. They remain close friends.
Kacey Musgraves and Ruston Kelly
Musgraves and her husband announced they were getting a divorce on July 3. “We’ve made this painful decision together,” the pair said in a statement at the time. “We believe we were put into each other’s lives for a divine reason.”
Cassie Randolph and Colton Underwood
The couple fell in love on season 23 of 'The Bachelor' and announced their sudden split in May. Shortly after their breakup, Randolph filed a restraining order against Underwood, and accused him of stalking her. Eventually Randolph dropped the charges.
Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers
The estranged couple announced they were separating after 10 year of marriage. They both released a joint statement via Instagram: “It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage.” Hammer has reportedly moved on with actress Rumer Willis.

The Green Bay Packers QB and the NASCAR driver split in July after more than two years of dating. Rodgers was dating actress Olivia Munn before he and Patrick got together.
Cody Simpson and Miley Cyrus
The "Midnight Sky" singer and Simpson called it quits in August. The two felt as if they were better off as friends rather than a couple after 10 months of being together.
Becca Kufrin and Garrett Yrigoyen
On September 1, Kufrin announced that she and Yrigoyen had ended their relationship. The couple got engaged during the season 14 finale of 'The Bachelorette' in 2018.
Lena Waithe and Alana Mayo
The couple shocked fans when they announced they were breaking up in January — only two months after getting married. “After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” representatives for the pair said at the time. “We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.” Mayo officially filed for divorce on November 20.
Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum
All of Bachelor Nation's hearts broke when these two split after seven years of marriage. “It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that, after months of separation, J.P. and I have amicably decided to go our separate ways,” Herbert captioned a photo of herself slow dancing with her estranged husband earlier this year.
Brad Pitt and Nicole Poturalski
The couple split in October due to Poturalski getting back with her husband. “Brad was fun but not the man for her,” a source exclusively told OK!. “Brad and Nicole hope to remain friends and even see each other when they are in the same town, but that is about it. To be honest, she really wasn’t that into Brad romantically. He is a nice boy, but Nicole likes a man.”
Johnny Galecki and Alaina Meyer
The couple called it quits after nearly two-years together. The 'Big Bang Theory' alum and Meyer share one child together, son Avery.
Lamar Odom and Sabrina Parr
The pair called off their engagement in November nearly one-year after the NBA star popped the question. “Y’all know I’m honest and transparent so I have to be the first to let you guys know that I am no longer engaged to Lamar,” Parr wrote on her Instagram at the time. “This has been a difficult decision for me to make but it is the best for myself and my children.”
Malik Beasley and Montana Yao
Yao immediately filed for divorce after photos surfaced of her husband holding hands with Larsa Pippen in Miami.
Phil Collins and Orianne Cevey
This celeb relationship is wild. In court, Cevey accused Collins of not being able to perform in bed and being an alcoholic. She also added a few gory details about his personal hygiene, revealing he allegedly doesn’t bathe or brush his teeth for months at a time. Despite all this, there are rumors that the two could get back together.
Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi
The 'RHOBH' star announced in November that she was filing for divorce from her husband of 21 years. Throughout their marriage, Jayne constantly had to defend their 32-year age difference. Their divorce proceedings have turned messy as Girardi rejected paying his estranged wife spousal support.
Kate Beckinsale and Goody Grace
Despite their 24-year age gap, the duo gave it a go for nine months before calling it quits. It was reported that Grace's age and him having other priorities at the time than her was a huge factor in their decision to split.
