Katie Holmes looked the best she's looked in a long time last night as she stepped out for the after party of the opening of her new Broadway play Dead Accounts.
Wearing a knee-length print dress, make-up done to perfection and her hair in soft waves, the former Mrs. Tom Cruise looked delighted to be back in the spotlight for her work and not her personal life.
But her performance, as a frumpy sister of a Wall Street man embroiled in scandal, did not receive overwhelming praise.
The Los Angeles Times liked the single mom's "charming, natural presence" but the New York Daily News critic said "unfortunately Holmes' efforts added up to zilch."
Katie had arrived for her second Broadway show gig looking decidedly less glamorous with no make up on and her hair scraped back – but at least she was wearing a fashionable red coat.
Her parents were there to cheer her on in her first acting job since her high-profile divorce.
